Pro day notes … While 2022 QB hopefuls Kenny Pickett, Malik Willis and Matt Corral all put in solid pro day workouts this week, more than one NFL personnel staffer will tell you that the most impressive QB to throw this week was Ohio State’s C.J. Stroud who won’t actually be draft eligible until next season when he figures to be a top ten candidate. Stroud, though, participated in the Buckeyes’ pro day today when he came out to throw to former teammates Garrett Wilson and Chris Olave. Most of the Buckeyes’ top prospects worked out at the combine and stood on their numbers from Indy; the one guy who didn’t go at the combine was TE Jeremy Ruckert who hoped to get on the field today, but showed up in a walking boot and remained on the sidelines … At Virginia, 6-7 rising TE Jelani Woods continued to build on his strong performance at the combine where he had a 4.61 40 clocking. At the Cavs’ pro day, he added a 37.5-inch vertical and shuttle times that would have been the best at the position at the combine. FS Joey Blount, who had 9 career picks, also impressed as he clocked a 4.38 40 with a 38-inch vertical and quick times in the agility drills … A couple of notes from the Utah State Pro Day where a couple of productive, albeit undersized, Aggies had impressive days. WR Deven Thompkins, who is only 5-7, 170 but had 102 receptions this past season for over 1,700 yards, had a 38.5-inch vertical and reportedly ran under 4.5 seconds with some very quick agility times, while DE/OLB Nick Heninger, who had 9 sacks in 2021 along with 12 other tackles for loss but is only 6-2, 230, ran a sub-4.75 40 and had a 36-inch vertical. He also posted times of 7.18 in the 3-cone run and 4.43 in the short-shuttle both of which would have been among the leaders at the position at the combine. Up next: It will be Cincinnati’s Desmond Ridder’s turn to do his thing at the Bearcats’ workout, while other pro days on tomorrow’s docket include those at Oklahoma State and Utah.
