PIGSKIN’s Mid-Season 2023 NFL MOCK DRAFT Round 1

November 7, 2022

I believe that way back in Summer when NFL Training Camps opened I promised that I would do a monthly Mock Draft this season. Well here we are entering November and past the trade deadline. Might be about time I kicked in with my Mock. Let’s go!

    1.  LIONS       WILL ANDERSON    ER/OB    Alabama         The LIONS D stinks and he’s the best defender who is now used to constant double-teams IN THE SEC. SPECIAL PLAYER.
    2. TEXANS     MYLES MURPHY     DE           Clemson     3-Down DE who can rush as we’ll as set the Edge.
    3. PANTHERS      JAHMYR GIBBS    RB      Alabama     Closest thing this year to McCaffrey with great speed and great hands as a receiving threat.
    4. STEELERS      JALEN CARTER      DL    Georgia     Their DL is getting old, and thin, and this is an impact player.
    5. JAGUARS       PETER SKOWRONSKI  OL  Northwestern   Best OL in Draft, likely Day 1, but he looks like his arms are too short for OT spot.
    6. RAIDERS       TYREE WILSON     ER/OLB  Texas Tech  Excellent athlete who will add juice to LB and ER groups.
    7. BUCCANEERS     C.J. STROUD     QB  Ohio State    They don’t have successor to Brady ’til now. Though he’s not flawless, his upside exceeds TRASK & GRIFFIN by a lot..
    8. EAGLES       PARIS JOHNSON   OT    Ohio State    Need someone to get ready to replace LANE JOHNSON at LT, and this really big guy may be the one.
    9. TEXANS     QUENTIN JOHNSTON   WR TCU    Has Brandin Cooks speed, but plus size of Randy Moss. Can take over a game.
    10. SEA HAWKS    BRYCE YOUNG   QB    Alabama  Battles Geno for starting job. Lacks ideal size but has the arm and brain to run an NFL team.
    11. CARDINALS     BRYAN BRESEE    DT   Clemson    Beefs up a mediocre DL group has strength and agility… think Howie Long.
    12. BEARS      NOLAN SMITH    OB/ER Georgia  This assumes he aces Combine medical after missing second half of this season to injury.
    13. PACKERS     JAELYN DUNCAN  OT    Maryland    Time to draft a legit OT not an IOL who has to learn a new position. Also has the size they haven’t drafted early in the past.
    14. LIONS      BIJON ROBINSON RB    Texas    Time to replace oft-injured SWIFT with a RB who has carried the load in college.
    15. COLTS     JORDAN ADDISON  WR  USC   Too early 4 QB leftovers, replace HILTON instead with a quick/speedy RAC weapon.
    16. PATRIOTS    BRODERICK JONES OL  Georgia   Maybe he can be what WYNN has not been, and stay healthy to boot.
    17. BENGALS    MICHAEL MAYER TE  Notre Dame    An all-around TE who will help run game, a bit more athletic than fellow recent Domer KMET.
    18. WFT       JOEY PORTER    CB    Penn State    Big, skilled CB with NFL genes & attitude to match.
    19. FALCONS    JARED VERSE   OB/ER  Florida State Team needs help almost everywhere, VERSE may have highest ceiling in Draft. Could be an elite Edge player and sack artist.
    20. DOLPHINS    O’CYRUS TORRENCE  OG Florida  May provide big boost to the run game after moving from OT to OG for the Gators.
    21. CHARGERS     JALIN HYATT    WR   Tennessee   Need a new top dog w/Keenan’s constant hammy issues, and this guy can fly.
    22. SEA HAWKS    GERVON DEXTER DT Florida   They have a decent front-7  but need more athleticism along DL… he’s it!
    23. RAVENS      ZACH CHARBONNET    RB   UCLA  Ravens want to run the ball, but their current RB group is injury prone. Knock on wood ZACH has been reliable in college.
    24. JETS    DREW SANDERS   OB  Arkansas   Former ‘Bama back-up emerged as a star for Razorbacks. Has great instincts and the athleticism to get to the ball.
    25. CHIEFS    TUCKER KRAFT  TE  South Dakota State     Small school guy looks a bit like KELCE, who is of course a Mahomes fave, but at 33 he may have peaked, in a great career.
    26. TITANS     DAWAND JONES   OT   Ohio State     MIKE VRABEL should just luv this monster, even by pro standards, at 6’8/360. A team that luvs to run needs a road grader like him.
    27. COWBOYS      JOSH DOWNS  WR    UNC    Currently in pursuit of his second straight year with 100+ catches. Nice slot option for LAMB/GALLUP & of course DAK.
    28. GIANTS     CEDRIC TILLMAN    WR    Tennessee     Time for a complete rebuild of  Giants WR room. TILLMAN can be what they thought they were getting in VFA GOLLADAY.
    29. VIKINGS    ISAIAH FOSKEY    ER/DE   Notre Dame     Seasoned vet who can move around like the Queen on a chess board, and will fit in with their other edge-rushers as needed.
    30. BILLS     B.J. OJULARI    ER/OB     LSU       One of the top defenders in a typical tough LSU D for new HC Kelly. Fast & relentless defender.
    31. EAGLES     DAIYAN HENLEY    LB     Washington St     Incredible athlete and a solid all-around football player. Can play run or pass defense.
    32. Forfeited First Rounder by DOLPHINS.

Quite a bit of variety and the biggest name missing here for me is Florida QB ANTHONY RICHARDSON, who I am pegging to have the sense to go back for one more year to refine his skills.

A few surprises here, but none made just to get your attention.

Please excuse the “questionable” order of Picks/Teams. I got caught in the middle of the weekly games and their results. But you get the idea. It’s all make believe after all.

Cheers
