Pats, WashComs fill key gaps

Pats, WashComs fill key gaps … Both Washington and New England, which have the 2nd and 3rd picks at the 2024 draft respectively made key hires today. New England named former Patriots LB Jerod Mayo as the team’s new head coach replacing Bill Belichek. Mayo had been the Patriots’ ILB coach the past 5 years, but in effect was Belichek’s right-hand man running the defence. Mayo in fact had a clause in his contract that made him the team’s head coach when Belichek finally left saving the Patriots from having to go through the usual process to find a new coach. However, the Patriots still do not have a GM, a role that Belichek filled. Meanwhile, Washington has agreed to terms San Francisco Assistant GM Adam Peters to become their new GM. This one’s a little complicated too as Washington already has a GM in Martin Mayhew who reportedly will now be offered a different job in the organization. And Peters’ first job will be to find a head coach to replace Ron Rivera who was fired at the end of the season.
