Pats’ Mayo narrows draft options

Pats’ Mayo narrows draft options … Normally at this time of the year, NFL teams don’t say much about their upcoming draft options other than perhaps to claim ‘we’re looking at everything and will be taking the best player!’ However, new New England head coach Jared Mayo, whose Patriots have the 3rd overall pick in this year’s draft, said in a local interview earlier this week that indeed they ‘we’re going to take the best available player’ but went on to add the qualifier ‘for the biggest need on the team’ and then took it one step further and listed the offensive line, receiver and quarterback as the Patriots’ biggest areas of concern. In fact, most observers expect the Patriots to take a QB with the third pick, one of Caleb Williams of USC, or more likely Drake Maye of North Carolina or LSU’s Jayden Daniels depending on what Chicago and Washington do with the first and second picks respectively. It could get a little interesting, though, if Mayo and the Patriots stick to their BPA promise and actually have star Ohio State WR Marvin Harrison rated higher than the QBs available to them. Still, it would be a major shock if Harrison was the Pats’ pick as elite QBs are much harder to find outside the top three picks in the draft that quality receivers. Stay tuned, though!
