Panther QB Mayfield dings ankle, status uncertain … Hard to know how much worse it can get in Carolina, but after this afternoon’s uninspiring home loss to San Francisco which pushed the 1-4 Panthers into the top spot in the current opening round selection order for the 2023 draft QB Baker Mayfield left the building in a walking boot because of an ankle injury suffered in the first half against the 49ers. Mayfield did try and gut it out the rest of the way, but eventually gave way to backup P.J. Walker when it became clear the game was a lost cause in the 4th quarter. There is no word on the extent of the injury other than its an ankle so obviously Mayfield will undergo more tests tomorrow. And if he can’t go next week against the Super Bowl champion LA Rams Walker would get the nod to start for the Panthers.
