OU QB Mateer being looked at for past past gambling … Reports out of Oklahoma indicate that the school is at least ‘looking into’ possible gambling activity by rising QB John Mateer who transferred to the program this year from Washington State. The issue arose last night after a series of screenshots showing betting activity involving former WSU teammates in 2022 on Mateer’s social media account were posted. The posts referenced “sports gambling” and a specific game on two occasions. Mateer, who was then a true freshman at Washington State, has denied ever being involved with gambling. There is also some speculation that the screenshots may actually be fabrications, but if not it could be problematic as the NCAA has a zero tolerance for betting on college sports by college athletes. Mateer, who is considered to be a very good second-tier draft prospect at the position, was the consensus #1 recruit in this year’s transfer portal after he threw for over 3,100 yards and 29 TDs last fall for the Cougars.
