‘Now you tell me …’ After last night’s disappointing 55-20 Cotton Bowl loss to Oklahoma, Florida head coach Dan Mullen said that in the end the Gators maybe shouldn’t have played at all because their lineup was so depleted by opt outs for either covid, injury or draft-related reasons. Unfortunately, the warning came a little late for Gators’ QB Kyle Trask who struggled against the Sooners completing just 16 of 28 passes and throwing three picks, one of which was returned for a pick six. Left unsaid is the fact that Trask had to face the Sooners’ defense without any of his top receivers, including All-America TE Kyle Pitts. No doubt Trask will get some participation points from NFL scouts for playing, but he was hoping for a much better performance to perhaps close the gap on some of the other top-rated QB prospects in this year’s draft class. Trask is still a solid mid-first round candidate, but he’s still generally considered to be #6 among the top half-dozen QB prospects this year. And is an unrelated QB story from the state of Florida, it has been confirmed that Miami QB D’Eriq King, who had announced that he was going to take advantage of the NCAA’s waiver year and return to school next fall, did tear an ACL in the Hurricanes’ bowl with Oklahoma State earlier this week. King will require surgery, but the school says it is hopeful that he’ll be ready for the start of the 2021 college season.
