Big Ten QB Thorson tears ACL … Northwestern QB Clayton Thorson suffered a torn ACL during the Wildcats’ win over Kentucky in the Music City Bowl last Friday. Thorson was injured while making a TD-catch on a trick play. The injury was not originally thought to be serious, but subsequent tests revealed a tear and Thorson is expected to undergo surgery in a few weeks when the swelling goes down. Given the typical recovery period for this kind of injury is 9-12 months, Thorson’s availability for the start of the 2018 season is very much up in the air; indeed, it’s not out of the question he won’t be able to play at all next year. Thorson is a 4th year junior who announced last month that he would be returning to school for his senior campaign. Thorson was considered to be something of a rising prospect this past season and likely would have graded out as a mid-to-late round candidate had be entered this year’s draft
