No Carson Beck; no prob for UGA which goes to CFP with OT win in SEC final

No Carson Beck; no prob for UGA which goes to CFP with OT win in SEC final … It didn’t look all that promising for Georgia at the half in their SEC final matchup with Texas earlier this afternoon. The Bulldags were down three at the breal, and worse star QB Carson beck was out of the game after suffering an arm injury on the final play of the half. However, seldom used backup Gunner Stockton came off the bench and generated just enough offence for Georgia to squeak out a 19-16 win over the Longhorns in OT. That puts the Bulldags into the CFP playoffs with an opening round bye to boot. Needless to say, though, the big question going forward for Georgia is the health of Beck. The program was non-committal in post-game interviews other than to say it was an upper body injury such that he couldn’t grip the ball, but there was a bit of a buzz in the hallway after the game that it was in fact a potentially serious injury. Stay tuned. Meanwhile, don’t shed any tears for Texas who’ll also get a CFP invite as a wild card. Of note, though, Horns’ star LT, a top 5-10 prospect for the upcoming draft, did not dress for today’s game as he continues to be hobbled by a foot injury suffered in last weekend’s win at Texas A&M, although it is not believed to be that serious. For the record, the official CFP field will be announced at Noon ET tomorrow on ESPN. As mentioned during the week, it already looks like 11 of the 12 spots are pretty much baked in. However, a number of teams aren’t going to be at all happy as their at least 4 teams – Alabama, Mississippi, South Carolina and Miami that have staked a claim on the final spot, and there could be a 5th if SMU loses to Clemson in the ACC final this evening (and as we go to post the Mustangs are well back.)
