NFL waits on Darnold … Southern California redshirt sophomore QB Sam Darnold says he plans to take a couple of days before deciding on whether to enter the 2018 draft. Darnold’s season came to a rather dismal end last night in a 24-7 loss to Ohio State in the Cotton Bowl where he turned the ball over three times, including a dreadful pick-6 interception when the game was still in doubt. However, Darnold didn’t get much help from his USC teammates as he was sacked 8 times and was on the run even when he wasn’t sacked, while his receivers struggled to get open. Certainly, if he does opt to enter the upcoming draft, Darnold will be in the discussion along with UCLA’s Josh Rosen and possibly Josh Allen of Wyoming to be a top 2-3 pick, but his penchant fpr turning the ball over – Darnold led the country with 22 total TOs this fall – is going to give NFL teams something to chew on. Meanwhile, Ohio State junior CB Denzel Ward, a top 15-20 prospect, sat out last night’s game presumably to avoid injury. Ward still hasn’t officially declared for this year’s draft, but that would appear to be just a formality.
