NFL revises selection order … What’s the famous line by that indomitable spook of very little brain Maxwell Smart: “Oops! Sorry about that chief!” The NFL announced earlier today that someone in the league office had a mistake when calculating which teams were to receive compensatory picks this year. In particular, the league erred in assigning Miami the 256th pick at the end of the 7th round; instead, New Orleans will get #254, while Cleveland drops from 254 to 255 and the LA Chargers drop from 255 to 256. At the same time, in updating the full selection order with that revision, we noticed a number of other picks have changed from the board the league released earlier this week at the time they originally announced the comp picks. Some of those changes reflect trades that were not made official until the start of the new football year; others not so much. For the record here are those changes:
- #114 goes from Dallas to Carolina
- #128 goes from Houston to Washington
- #147 goes from Washington to San Francisco
- #164 goes from Cleveland to Philadelphia
- #185 foes from Seattle to Pittsburgh
- #188 goes from Dallas to Tennessee
- #202 goes from Chicago to the LA Rams
- #204 goes from Buffalo to Dallas
- #223 goes from Pittsburgh to Seattle
- #230 goes from Arizona to Carolina
Note the one pick that was traded this week that does not appear to show up on the NFL’s published selection order is the 5th round pick that Buffalo acquired from Dallas in the trade for CB Kaiir Elam which we have been able to confirm was #170, the first of the Cowboys’ 3 comp picks in that round.
