NFC East QB dominos falling into place … With just hours to go until the franchise tag deadline passes tomorrow, Dallas has come to terms on new long-term deal with QB Dak Prescott. Prescott, who played under a franchise tag last year, sign what is being reported as a 4-year deal worth a whopping $140M with $126M guaranteed. The deal also reportedly includes a no-trade clause. Meanwhile, there are multiple media reports out of Philadelphia indicating that Eagles’ owner Jeff Lurie wants to see Jalen Hurts start at QB next fall. Hurts, the Eagles second-round pick last April who started 4 games with mixed success this past season, is the current incumbent in the job in Philadelphia after Carson Wentz was traded to Indianapolis. Not surprisingly, there has been considerable speculation that the Eagles would take a QB with the 6th pick in this year’s draft. Indeed, there has been speculation that the Eagles, armed with the extra picks acquired in the Wentz deal, could actually look to trade up into the 2nd or 3rd picks in search of a QB. Of course, the Eagles could still consider taking a QB if they in fact plan to start Hurts this fall, although it might be more likely that they use the selection to beef up their supporting cast instead. In that context, there has also been some speculation that the Eagles could try and sign a veteran QB like Alex Smith, the NFL’s Comeback Player of the Year who was released by division-rival Washington. Time will tell. Stay tuned!
