Mitch T to Steelers; Jags to sign top OG … With the NFL’s legal tampering window open ahead of the start of the new football year on Wednesday another QB domino has fallen with news that Mitch Trubisky has agreed to terms with Pittsburgh on a two-year deal. While the Steelers are simply saying that Trubisky will compete for the starting job with Mason Rudolph its hard to imagine he isn’t already penciled into replace Ben Roethlisberger, at least in the short term. Of course, the Steelers could also still select a QB with their #1 pick this year, but that would appear to be unlikely at this time. It would also certainly suggest that the Steelers aren’t likely to trade up for a QB. At the same time, Jacksonville will reportedly sign former Washington Pro Bowl OG Brandon Scherff. Whether that impacts what the Jags do with the top pick this year remains to be seen, although its still likely that an OT like Alabama’s Evan Neal or Ickey Ekwonu of NC State is still high on their short list. Meanwhile, there are reports that Houston QB Deshaun Watson will meet with both Carolina and New Orleans, the two teams that seem to have the most real interest in trading for his services, sometime in the next 48 hours.
