QB Mayfield center of morning attention … There actually isn’t a whole lot of buzz around the NFL these days, even with the draft just over ten days away. And what buzz there is seems to be focused mostly on Cleveland QB Baker Mayfield. Mary Kay Cabot, the very good Browns’ beat writer with the Plain Dealer and Cleveland.com reported this morning that Carolina has the ‘inside’ track on any potential trade for Mayfield, who remains with the Browns despite the fact that the team recently acquired Deshaun Watson from Houston. The Athletic’s Joe Person then chimed in saying that Mayfield is in fact not the Panthers only veteran QB target. To be fair, though, Jimmy Garopollo of the 49ers is really the only other established veteran who appears to be available at this time, although there may be other potential stop-gap types like Nick Foles. What does it all mean? Who knows? If the Panthers are serious about acquiring a veteran like Mayfield or Garoppolo it would be a pretty clear signal that they will not be taking a QB with the 6th pick overall at this year’s draft. On the other hand, they could just be throwing some smoke out there to throw off any teams thinking of maybe trading up ahead of the Panthers 6th pick to get the guy of their choice.
