Mariota fallout

March 13, 2015

Ducks QB ´okay´at pro day … The reviews are still trickling in, but the overall consensus around the NFL appears to be that while Oregon QB Marcus Mariota was solid enough at yesterday´s pro day workout, there also wasn´t anything that was special about his day. Working almost exclusively under center, Mariota showed plenty of arm strength and decent mechanics, but was not as accurate as maybe expected as as many as a half dozen of his pass attempts went astray, which is more than normal when throwing against air. Of course, it only takes one team to actually pick a player and first up for Mariota, assuming that Tampa Bay takes Florida State QB Jameis Winston with the first pick overall, is Tennessee which had a full contingent of head office people in Oregon yesterday. Indeed, Mariota ended up doing double duty for the Titans, as he went through a private 45-minute workout in front of Titans’ GM Ruston Webster, head coach Ken Whisenhunt, offensive coordinator Jason Michael, and QBs coach John McNulty. Mariota aldo reportedly spent another 45 minutes in a classroom situaton with the Tennessee brass. Said Whisehunt afterwards Mariota “did a nice job for us; he was sharp in both the classroom and on the field; he handled everything we gave him well.” Not exactly gushing, but positive. For the record, Mariota also has private workouts scheduled with private workouts with the New York Jets on March 28, Tampa Bay on April 9 and San Diego April 15. Cleveland is also reportedly also planning a privater workout with the former Oregon star.
