Lions out in force at Ducks’ pro day

April 2, 2022

Lions out in force at Ducks’ pro day … One of the enduring storylines of the run-up to the 2022 draft – now just 26 days away – has revolved around questions related to Oregon DE Kayvon Thibodeaux. Once considered almost a lock to be the first player selected on April 28th, questions about his attitude, intensity and commitment to the game have seen his stock drop. If nothing else, though, Detroit, which has the second pick overall this year, took the opportunity to check him up close and personal at yesterday’s Oregon pro day. Indeed, Lions’ G.M. Brad Holmes took a 7-man delegation halfway across the country to the Ducks’ pro day to check him out. Seattle, which picks 9th, also had a large 7-man delegation in Eugene yesterday while the Giants who pick 5th and 7th had 5 people at the Ducks’ pro day. For the record, the Jets also reportedly spent extra time with Thibodeaux as did Baltimore which picks outside the top ten. For the most part, Thibodeaux stood on his combine results including a solid 4.58 40 clocking, but did the long jump and agility drills yesterday, although his results were nothing special. His time of 4.34 seconds in the shuttle, for example, would have been middle of the pack at the combine and well below that of Aiden Hutchinson who was timed in 4.15. In fact, it was somewhat of a slow day overall at the Ducks’ pro day. FS Verone McKinley, who didn’t run at the combine, was only able to clock a very pedestrian, especially for a smallish DB, 40 time of 4.65 seconds, while also posting rather ordinary times in the agility drills. Same for CB Mykael Wright who timed 4.55 in the forty, while WR Devon Williams was barely able to crack the 4.70 mark.
