Jets tag FS Maye; QB Darnold back on the block?

Jets tag FS Maye; QB Darnold back on the block? … The NY Jets became the second team to exercise their franchise tag when they designated rising FS Marcus Maye. Earlier this month, Denver had franchised FS Justin Simmons for a 2nd straight season. Teams officially have until the end of business Tuesday to designate players as either franchise or transition players, although there is speculation that that timeline could be extended as the 2021 salary cap figure still has not seen formalized. Meanwhile, speculation continues to percolate around what the Jets, who have the #2 pick overall at the upcoming draft will do at QB. Most recently, the thinking around the league was that the Jets were leaning toward sticking with Sam Darnold for at least another and using the second pick to bolster a very thin roster. However, G.M. Joe Douglas indicated at a recent presser that anyone interested in acquiring Darnold should give him a call which suggests the Jets are in fact thinking of moving on at the position, either by selecting someone like BYU’s Zack Wilson with the second selection or really shaking things up by including it in a package for a veteran like DeShaun Watson who desperately wants out of Houston.
