Jets don’t sign Vikes LB Barr

March 12, 2019

Jets don’t sign Vikes FA LB Barr … In a bit of a stunner that could have some reveberations on the early picks at the 2019 draft, Minnesota OLB Anthony Barr has indicated that he will in fact not be signing with the New York Jets when the NFL year begins on Wednesday, but rather will be staying put with the Vikings after all. There were reports that Barr had agreed to terms with the Jets last evening, but of course couldn’t actually sign until tomorrow. It was possible that the Jets, who have the 3rd pick overall in this year’s opening round and were thought to be looking for a 3-4 edge rushing OLB, figured that Barr would address that issue which then might have freed up the team to look at other players with the 3rd pick such as Alabama DT Quinnen Williams, if he gets that far. It could also allow the Jets to think more about trading out of the 3rd slot if they see Barr as addressing their #1 priority. However, it is now back to the drawing board for the Jets who could again be looking at edge rushers with the 3rd pick if they can’t find someone else in free agency.
