Jets cut 3rd rounder; trade CB for future pick … The NY Jets shocked some people around the league when they released former Florida OLB Jachai Polite earlier today as part of their moves to get down to the 53-man-opening day roster. Polite was an early 3rd round pick at the 2019 draft, the 68th player chosen, and teams just don’t cut players taken with premium picks this early in the careers. Meanwhile, the Jets also placed 6th round CB Blessuan Austin on the non-football injury list. The Jets, though, did pick up a conditional 7th rounder in 2021 when they traded CB Parry Nickerson to Seattle. Meanwhile, across town the Giants got down to their roster limit by releasing 32 players including DT Chris Slayton, a 7th round pick this year. The Giants also placed their other 7th rounder – G/T George Asafo-Adjei – on IR with a concussion.
