Jets claw defeat from hands of victory; keep #1 pick

December 6, 2020

Jets snatch defeat from jaws of victory; keep #1 pick … It appeared for just a moment that the NY Jets would finally get their first win of the season playing against Las Vegas this afternoon, but, alas, it was not to be as Raiders’ QB Derek Carr hit rookie WR Henry Ruggs with a game-winning 46-yard scoring pass with just 5 seconds on the clock. That drops the Jets to 0-12 and means they’ll keep the #1 pick overall in the ‘if the draft were held this week’ selection order for the 2021 draft for at least another week. In fact, the Jets could have inched all that closer to clinching the top pick when Jacksonville, which came into the week with the second pick, took Minnesota to overtime, but like the Jets came up short in the end. Same story for Cincinnati which got off to a good start in Miami, but also ended up losing again. As a result of today’s action, the top three picks in the draft order – Jets, Jags, and Bengals – will be unchanged when the full updated opening round selection order is posted on Wednesday. However, the rest of the order won’t be confirmed until after the prime games tomorrow and Tuesday.
