Jeanty sits combine run; others fast; some slowish … Interesting that most of the RBs in Indianapolis this week opted to run at their on-field testing today. Indeed, 24 of the 31 backs at this year’s combine ran today. Unfortunately, Ashton Jeanty, the one that everyone wanted to see, chose not to. One could also sense watching the RB 40s was how the position has changed in recent years with backs generally getting smaller, but faster. That showed today as more than half of those that did run ran under 4.5 seconds, when it wasn’t that long ago that 4.55 was thought of as respectable time for a RB. Interestingly, though, it was not necessarily the bigger names at the position that posted the best times. In fact, Bhayshul Tuten of Virginia Tech posted the fastest time among the backs at 4.32, followed closely by Jaydon Blue of Texas and former SMU WR Brashard Smith both at 4.39, while UCF’s RJ Harvey (4.41), Montrell Johnson of Florida (4.42), Trevor Etienne of Georgia (4.43), Tre’Veon Henderson (4.43), and DJ Giddens of Kansas State (4.43) also broke the 4.5 mark. Among the backs generally considered to be at the top of the positional board Omarion Hampton (4.46), Quinshon Judkins (4.48) and Tajh Brooks (4.53) were solid enough, but several others including Kaleb Johnson (4.57), Devin Neal (4.60), Ollie Gordon (4.61) and Kyle Monangai (4.60) had to be a little disappointed with their times. Here is the full list of unofficial 40 times for the RBs.
