Jags’ Tebow among cuts as teams get down to 85

Jags’ Tebow among cuts as teams get down to 85 … The first of three roster deadlines in the NFL comes up later today as all teams will have to be down to the 85-man roster limit by the end of business this afternoon. Teams will then have to reduce their rosters by another 5 player to 80 on Tuesday, August 24th. The big cut, though, comes after the third week of the pre-season as everybody has to be down to the 53-man opening day roster by the end of business on August 31st. In fact, teams have been announcing some or all of their first round of cuts over the past couple of days. And, not surprisingly, almost all of the players who have either been released to date or who will be released by 4 PM ET Later today are fringe players who weren’t going to make the team anyway. The one notable exception though maybe former Florida All-America QB Tim Tebow who was trying to make a comeback as a TE with Jacksonville, but was released earlier today. Here is the NFL.com’s cuts tracker which seems to be the best source for cut updates.
