Jags to stick with QB Bortles to start season … Jacksonville has reversed somewhat and announced that incumbent starter Blake Bortles will continue in that role when the Jaguars open the season on September 10th. The Jags has ‘opened’ their QB competition earlier this month after Bortles struggled in the team’s first two pre-season games. Indeed, there were rumblings that Jacksonville could actually consider releasing Bortles as he has a $19M salary in 2018 which is guaranteed if he were to suffer an injury that prevents him from passing a physical next year. However, veteran journeyman Chad Henne was even more underwhelming when he started this week’s game, while Bortles’ play was improved. Meanwhile, Jags’ owner Shad Khan is being quoted as saying that he might be open to bringing in embattled former 49ers’ QB Colin Kaepernick to add another option at the position. What all this suggests is that the Jaguars, who appear to be looking at yet another top 5-10 pick at the 2018 draft, could very well be back in the market for a young QB next April. Stay tuned!
