Jags get their guy; confirm hiring coach Meyer … After a day spent crossing the t’s and dotting the i’s, Jacksonville has confirmed that they have hired former Ohio State and Florida coach Urban Meyer to replace Doug Marrone as the Jaguars’ head coach. Meyer takes over a team that won just one game this past season, but does hold the #1 pick in the upcoming draft along with the NFL’s largest cap space. Meyer and the Jaguars are expected to start the rebuild by selecting Clemson QB Trevor Lawrence with this year’s top pick. Interesting that Meyer was hired before the Jaguars had a new G.M. in place, bt likely one of the conditions of the Meyer hire is that he’ll be the de facto boss, not the G.M. Meyer is one of the most successful coaches in college football history with a career winning percentage over .85 along with three national championships. He stepped down from Ohio State during the 2018 season because of a health concern that required surgery, but he is apparently fine these days.
