Irish name Kizer starting QB … Notre Dame has formally installed redshirt sophomore DeShone Kizer as the team’s #1 QB going forward. Entering the Irish’s season-opener against Texas, Kizer and junior Malik Zaire were listed as co-starters and alternated series going into the third quarter against the Longhorns before Kizer took over and finished up. Notre Dame ended up losing a thriller in overtime, but Kizer was outstanding completing 15 of 24 passes for 215 yards and 5 scores, while he ran for another 77 yards and a 6th score. And while Kizer has only one career start, there is already an emerging draft buzz about the 6-4, 230-pounder; indeed, there are pro scouts that would not be surprised if Kizer is ultimately the first QB off the board this coming April if in fact he opts to enter the 2017 draft.
