Irish, Buckeyes battle for national title … It is championship Monday in college football with Ohio State slated to take on Notre Dame for the national title this evening in Atlanta. Kick-off is scheduled for 7:30 PM ET with coverage on ESPN. The Buckeyes are favored as they have Top 100 draft prospects as just about every position including QB Will Howard, RBs Tre’veyon Henderson and Quinshon Judkins, WR Emeka Egbuka, G/T Donovan Jackson, DEs Jack Sawyer and JT Tuimoloau, DTs Tyliek Williams and Ty Hamilton, LBs Cody Simon and Sonny Stiles, CBs Denzel Burke, Davison Igbinson and Jordan Hancock and S Lathan Ransom, although Egbuka is the only one who is considered to be a lock to be a first-round pick. In fact, the Buckeyes best players may actually be freshman WR Jeremiah Smith and super soph safety Caleb Downs, both of whom the NFL will have to wait on for a bit. It is also a pretty good bet that the Irish won’t have anyone selected in this year’s opening round, but like the Buckeyes they do have several veteran players that will interest NFL teams including QB Riley Leonard, TE Mitch Evans, WR Beaux Collins, DT Howard Cross, DE RJ Oben, LB Jack Kiser, CB Jordan Clark and S Xavier Watts. Whether the Irish can in fact hang with the Buckeyes, though, may depend on whether sophomore RBs Jeremiyah Love and Jadarain Price can get the run game established. Should be fun. Enjoy!!
