Into the homestretch

April 2, 2023

Into the homestretch … There’s now less than a month to go until the first picks come off the board at the 2023 draft just 26 days to be exact – and with the pro days pretty much in the books, teams will be heading home and hunkering down in their respective war rooms putting the final touches on their boards and firming up the areas they’d like to address at the end of the month. Teams are also allowed up to 30 on-site visits from out-of-town prospects. Teams, though, are only allowed to interview these players and conduct some medical testing; however, they are not allowed to work the players out. Teams can also have an unlimited number of on-sites from players who either are from that area or attend school there and those players can worked out. Player workouts are also permitted at the college or home town of a prospect. In fact, several players who for one reason another were unable to participate in either the combine or the pro day have scheduled open workouts in the next couple of weeks. Clemson DE Myles Murphy, for example, will work out on Tuesday, while Illinois CB Devin Weatherspoon has a scheduled workout on Wednesday. Texas Tech DE Tyree Wilson, a top 10 prospect who has been unable to workout because of a foot problem hopes to work out next week. Meanwhile, players with notable injury issues can be recalled to Indianapolis for an updated evaluation.
