‘Horns Golden golden in in fast WR sprint … Texas WR Isaiah Bond boldly predicted that he’d break Xavier Worthy’s epic combine 40-time set last year, but in the end wasn’t even the fast receiver at this afternoon’s on-field workout for the QBs, RBs and WRs. Heck, in the end, Bond wasn’t even the fastest former Longhorn at the event today as his former Texas teammate Matthew Golden was the fastest WR overall with a 4.29 clocking. In fact, there was speed to burn today as a record ten receivers were timed in under 4.4 seconds including the above mentioned Bond who turned in a not too shabby 4.39 time of his own. And while Golden had already caught the eye of pro scouts and was getting some pre-combine first-round buzz, NFL personnel people will likely be heading back to the tape to get another look at Tennessee’s Donte Thornton, a rangy 6-4.5 205 wdeout. who finished just behind Golden with a 4.30 clocking. For teh record, those other sub-4.4 40s were run by Chimere Dike of Florida (4.34), Virginia Tech’s Jaylin Lane (4.35), Arian Smith of Georgia (4.36), Maryland’s Tai Felton (4.37), Keandre Lambert-Smith of Auburn (4.38), and Jaylin Noel of Iowa State (4.39). Meanwhile, a trio of other leading WR prospects – Luther Burden of Missouri (4.41), Utah State’s Jalen Royals (4.42), and Kyle Williams of Washington State (4.42) were just over the 4.4 mark, while the times for other top receivers included 4.47 for Iowa State’s Jayden Higgins, 4.49 for TCU’s Savion Williams, 4.51 for Oregon’s Tez Johnson, 4.54 for Tre Harris of Ole Miss. 4.58 for San Jose State’s Nick Nash and 4.61 for Ricky White of UNLV. At the same time, those that didn’t run today included Arizona’s Tetairoa McMillan, the consensus #1 receiver this year, Senior Bowl MVP Jack Bech of TCU, Emeka Egbuka of Ohio State and Miami’s Xavier Restrepo. Here again are the full list of WR 40 times from today.
