Heels QB Howell ‘crisp’ at pro day workout … All 32 NFL teams had reps at North Carolina’s pro day work out today; however, several GMs and head coaches opted not to attend as they were at the annual league meetings – which, yes, does beg the question why schedule your pro day when NFL personnel are going to be occupied elsewhere, but we’ll leave that to another day – and Howell will reportedly throw again at a private workout sometime next week. Still, it was a pretty good crowd in Chapel Hill which included significant delegations from several teams, most notably Washington, New Orleans, and Pittsburgh. There were also a half dozen QB coaches in town including those from Seattle, Tennessee, Houston and the Giants. For the record, Howell went through a scripted 66-pass throwing session which was described by one scout as ‘crisp’. Meanwhile, 28 teams had reps at the Florida pro day where rising CB Kaiir Elam, who ran under 4.4 seconds at the combine, added to his resume with a 37.5-inch vertical and a short shuttle time of 4.21 seconds. DE Zach Carter also stood on his combine results mostly but did post a very good – for a 285-pound end/tackle – 4.30 short shuttle time. At the same time, RB Malik Davis , who was not invited to the combine, had an explosive 39.5-inch vertical, but only clocked around the 4.7 range in the 40.
