Has top 4 become top 3 at WR?

April 16, 2023

Has top 4 become top 3 at WR? … We noted when we posted the latest GBN Big Board last week that we’d still be updating as new info becomes available. And one thing we are hearing is that TCU WR Quentin Johnston may longer be in contention to be the first WR selected later this month. Johnston is the one WR among the top group at the position with legitimate size, but he’s dropped on boards around the league because teams are concerned that he just doesn’t have the same separation speed and quickness of guys like Jaxon Smith-Njigba of Ohio State, Zay Flowers of Boston College and Jordan Addison of Southern Cal. In fact, we had at least one source tell us that no one should be surprised if Johnston is actually selected after one or both of Jalin Hyatt of Tennessee and/or Josh Downs of North Carolina. At the same time, the sense around the league is that Smith-Njigba appears to have rather firmly established himself as the #1 receiver in this year’s draft class despite barely  playing last fall because of a nagging hamstring. What the league hasn’t forgotten, though, is that Smith-Njigba had almost as many yards as former Ohio State teammates Chris Olave and Garrett Wilson combined when he was healthy in 2021. And Olave and Wilson were the two top rookie receivers in the NFL last fall.
