Guess who’s coming to dinner: April 10-11 … This is the last full week that teams are allowed to bring in out-of-town prospects as part of their allowed 30 on-site visits. In fact, the last day for these visits is a week Wednesday on the 19th. And it looks like it is going to be an interesting week. Alabama QB Bryce Young, for example, will be in Carolina tomorrow to visit with the Panthers who have the #1 pick overall in this month’s draft. The Panthers claim they are still evaluating the different prospects for the top pick, but their is a growing sense around the league that Young will be the first player selected on the 27th, not so much because of anything that Carolina has said or done, but because there is a growing consensus around the league that he is simply the best QB available despite being somewhat undersized. Young, though, is not the only QB prospect that Carolina will visit with as the Panthers had Florida’s Anthony Richardson in today; for the record, Richardson will head up to Indianapolis to meet with the Colts tomorrow. Meanwhile, not to be left out, Tennessee will be hosting Kentucky QB Will Levis on Thursday, while Tennessee’s Hendon Hooker will be visiting Detroit, which has the 6th and 18th picks this year, later in the week.
At the same time, we’d love to be on the fly on wall in Seattle tomorrow where the Seahawks will be hosting Georgia DT Jalen Carter who under normal circumstances would almost be a lock to be taken by Seattle at #5; however, his draft status of course has been clouded after he was involved in a fatal auto accident earlier this year. It has also been interesting trying to figure out where this year’s WR class; there are a few whispers around the league that a number of teams aren’t totally enamored with this year’s receiver group. And looking at where Jaxon Smith-Njigba of Ohio State and TCU’s Quentin Johnston are visiting this week – and they’ll both be all over the country this week – doesn’t reveal very much. Smith-Njigba, for example, will visit Atlanta and Houston, both of which have top 12 picks, this week, but he’ll also be in Baltimore, Dallas and Buffalo, which pick in the 20s. there’s a similar story for Johnston who will also be visiting Atlanta, along with Arizona and Tennessee, while they’ll also baltimore, Dallas, Minnesota and Kansas City. Update: There is a similar story for USC’s Jordan Addison, another of the top 4-5 WRs this year who is currently visiting Minnesota after checking in with Baltimore and New England and has further visits planned with Buffalo and the Giants. The Bills and Giants will also be visiting with Tennessee’s Jalin Hyatt in the next day or so after he visited with Dallas.
