Guess who’s coming to dinner – end of March

March 30, 2017

Guess who’s coming to dinner … There is all kinds of stuff other than the pro days going on around the NFL with the draft now less than a month away. Cleveland, for example, worked out Clemson QB Deshaun Watson on Thursday and will host Mitch Trubisky for a workout on Friday as part of their local visits. Trubisky is from the Cleveland area and therefore qualifies as a ‘local’ prospect who is allowed to work out on his visit. Watson and Trubisky, of course, are the two top-rated passers for the 2017 draft and while the Browns appear to be locked in on Texas A&M DE Myles Garrett with the 31 pick overall, they could take a QB with the 12th pick. For the record, the Browns have also worked out Notre Dame’s DeShone Kizer and Pat Mahomes of Texas Tech. Sources close to the Browns indicate that while the Browns seem to like Trubisky the best of this group, they still aren’t sold any of them and would appear to still prefer trying to acquire a veteran through a trade. In fact, Trubisky has been a busy fellow as he worked out for the Jets on Thursday at UNC. Alabama TE O.J. Howard is also a busy fellow as he has visits scheduled with Chicago and Jacksonville, which have the 3rd and 4th picks overall in next month’s draft, while he reportedly recently worked out with Carolina which has the 8th pick. Again, it’s hardly an exact science, but if Howard is meeting with teams with top 5 picks there is a better than even chance that he is being viewed as a legitimate top 10 candidate, despite the fact he plays a position that doesn’t always get a lot of respect early in the draft.
