Guess who didn’t come to dinner

Guess who didn’t come to dinner … The headlines coming out of yesterday’s on-field workouts by the defensive linemen and LBs were mostly about the great times turned in by Georgia ER Nolan Smith and Pittsburgh DT Calijah Nancey which in fact were among the best times ever produced at those respective positions. In many ways, though, the major news from yesterday’s workout was just how many top prospects didn’t participate, especially among the edge rushers. Indeed, the list of top prospects that didn’t run yesterday included Jalen Carter of Georgia, Clemson’s Myles Murphy, Tyree Wilson of Texas Tech, Iowa’s Lukas VanNess, Iowa State’s Will McDonald, Zach Harrison of Ohio State, Army’s Andre Carter, BJ Ojualri of LSU, Keio White of Georgia Tech, Drew Sanders of Arkansas, Tui Tuipulotu of USC, TCU’s Dylan Horton, LSU’s Ali Gaye, Felix Anudile-Uzomah, Mazi Smith of Michigan, Byron Young of Alabama, and Vilami Fehoko of San Jose State. Of course, a few of those players had legitimate injury concerns about participating, but there is no other way to look at it than more than half the first round prospects eligible to work out yesterday didn’t. Meanwhile, only a handful of players opted to participate in some of the drills like the shuttle drills. No wonder more coaches are skipping the event.
