Giants sign Bills’ Daboll to coach; Jags still spinning wheels … The Giants have come to terms with former Buffalo offensive co-ordinator Brian Daboll to replace Joe Judge as the team’s head coach. In the end, it wasn’t a big surprise that Daboll lands with the Giants as they had just signed Joe Schoen, another former Bill, to be the team’s new G.M. And for anyone who missed it yesterday, Chicago signed Mike Eberflus to be their new head coach; Eberflus had been the defensive co-ordinator with Indianapolis. In fact, it was a little bit of a surprise that the Bears ended up hiring a defensive guy as it was widely thought they’d be looking for someone with an offensive background to help groom new QB Justin Fields. On the other hand, Jacksonville is still looking. There were reports yesterday that the Jags had hired former Tampa Bay offensive co-ordinator Byron Leftwich on the condition that they would fire incumbent G.M. Trent Baalke and replace his with Arizona exec Adrian Wilson. All that may still happen, but the Jags can’t simply hire Wilson, who is a minority candidate, because the modified Rooney rule says that a team must have hold in-person interviews with two minority candidates which sounds like a really dumb rule given the circumstances. In the meantime, Leftwich has apparently also received some interest from New Orleans which also needs a coach after Sean Peyton walked away from the game, at least for the year.
