Giants looking at QBs … Mired in arguably their worst start since before-LT and with 36-soon-to-be-37 year old starter, the New York Giants are reportedly taking a long, hard look at the 2018 QB draft class. Indeed, ESPN is reporting this day that co-owner John Mara went so far as to literally order the team to go all in on a potential replacement for Eli Manning. As a result, The Giants, who currently sit on the 3rd pick overall for the upcoming draft, had VP of player evaluation Marc Ross personally scout UCLA QB Josh Rosen. It’s not unusual for senior execs to check out some of the top draft prospects, but they usually wait until much later in the draft process. Manning will make his 208th consecutive regular-season start Sunday against winless San Francisco, which will tie older brother Peyton for second on the all-time NFL consecutive start list behind Brett Favre. Manning also became just the 7th QB in NFL history to pass for over 50,000 yards during the Giants during last Sunday’s dismal loss to the LA Rams, but the fact is Manning hasn’t played all that well over the past couple of years. This year, for example, Manning ranks 23rd in the league in passing efficiency and 27th in yards per completion. The Giants have also reportedly been giving rookie QB Davis Webb, their 3rd round pick this past April, reps in practice and have hinted he might get some actual game-snaps as the season wears along. And while it may dismay many of the ‘fire-em-all’ elements among the Giants’ fan base, the fact that ownership appears to be entrusting the QB search to the current personnel department may suggest that the team may not be making any radical changes to their football operations staff. However, head coach Ben McAdoo may not be so lucky as their reports this evening that at least two players are being quoted as saying he has ‘lost the team.’ Stay tuned.
