Future college transfer notes

Future college transfer notes … Despite the fact that the deadline for underclassmen thinking of entering the 2026 draft to apply to the NFL for early entry is now less than a week away, that column of the college football transfer wire has been relatively quiet the past couple of days. However, there have been a number of moves that could impact the 2027 and beyond drafts. Sophomore QB DJ Lagway, who started to attract the interest of NFL teams after a breakout freshman year in 2023 at Florida, for example, has committed to Baylor after a disappointing, injury-plagued follow-up season this past year. Meanwhile, the NCAA has avoided a messy NIL/portal situation as Washington sophomore QB Demond Williams has agreed to stay with the Huskies. Williams had signed a lucrative deal to stay with the Huskies, but then claimed he’d be entering the transfer portal after reportedly getting an even better offer. At the same time, former Auburn OT Xavier Chaplin, potentially one of the top OL prospects next year, has committed to finish his career at Florida State. On the other hand, BYU RB LJ Martin, one of the top backs for next year, has opted to stay with the Cougars.
