First full college football Saturday a month away … For those that like to keep track of these things, we are just a month away from the 1st full Saturday on the college football schedule. And there are some interesting games on the schedule for September 2nd including Colorado, suddenly relevant again with the arrival of Deion Sanders, playing at last year’s losing national finalist TCU; Boise State at Washington, and North Carolina at South Carolina, in a match-up of top QB prospects in the Heels’ Drake Maye and Spencer Rattler of the Gamecocks. The game of the week, and maybe at least one of the games of the month, comes on Sunday the 3rd when Florida State hosts LSU in a battle of teams with legitimate national aspirations. Meanwhile, a couple of other games to note later in the month of September has Texas playing at Alabama on the 9th, while on the 23rd, Florida State plays at ACC rival Clemson and Ohio State visits Notre Dame. For the record, though, though, the college season actually opens on August 26th with a smattering of games including the annual Navy-Notre Dame match-up which will be played in Dublin this year.
With all that in mind, and the NFL set to start a week later, we will be starting our full coverage of the upcoming season on Monday. And while we are at it, just a couple of quick notes. Other than the teams that play on August 26th, all college teams will be allowed to start their full fall training camps on Monday. Also, just to follow-up on the yesterday’s conference alignment news, the Big XII has voted to accept Utah and Arizona State into the conference bringing the conference up to 16 teams.
