Ducks top initial CFP playoff rankings … To no one’s great surprise, Oregon is the top-ranked team in the initial CFP playoff ranking announced yesterday. The undefeated Ducks are followed by Ohio State, Georgia, Miami and Texas in spots 2-5, while Penn State, Tennessee, Indiana, BYU, Notre Dame, Alabama and Boise State round out what would be the 12-team playoff grouping. For the record, teams that just missed the top 12 include SMU, Texas A&M, LSU, Mississippi and Iowa State. Note, though, that the four first round byes must be conference champions under the new CFP format so Oregon (Big Ten), Georgia (SEC), Miami (ACC) and BYU (Big 12) would get the first-round byes in the current scenario.
