DT Graham, DE Green go full on ‘gator’ … While today’s on-field physical testing for the defensive linemen and LBs at the scouting combine will get most of the headlines, the weigh-in/measurement session earlier this morning may be just as important. In fact, one of the things we were most curious about the whole combine is how long Michigan DT Mason Graham’s arm are. There were whispers that Graham, a legit top 5 prospect for the upcoming draft, did not have the long arms that NFL teams look for in a potential pass rusher. Those concerns were largely confirmed at today’s weigh-in where Graham’s arms measured in a barely 32″. Even more surprising perhaps is the fact that Graham, who was listed as playing at 320 pounds also weighed in at under 300 pounds (296.) Same story for Marshall DE Mike Green, who also was measured in with just 32″ arms, while fellow ERs Jack Sawyer of Ohio State, Josiah Stewart of Michigan, Louisville’s Ashton Gillotte and Antwuan Powell-Ryland of Virginia Tech all have arms under 32″. For some reason, Penn State’s Abdul Carter, the top-rated DE, did not have his arms measured, while Mykel Williams of Georgia did pass the eyeball test as he measured in at a solid 6-5, 260 with 34.5″ arms. Several DTs also stood out in shorts including Oregon’s Derrick Harmon (6-4.5, 313, 34.5:), Yahya Black of Iowa (6-6. 336, 35″), Texas’ Alfred Collins (6-6, 332, 34.5″), Toledo’s Darius Alexander (6-4, 305, 34″) and Deone Walker of Kentucky (6-7, 331, 34″+). On the other hand several top DTs did not impress all that much, at least in shorts including Walter Nolen of Ole Miss (6-4, 296, 32.5″), Oregon’s Jamaree Caldwell (6-2, 332, 32″), Ohio State’s Ty Hamilton (6-3, 299, 32″), and Aeneas Peebles of Virginia Tech (6-0.5, 282, 31.5″).
