Deals in wind as trade deadline nears

Deals in the wind as trade deadline nears … The NFL trade deadline comes up a week today – officially at 4 PM ET on November 1st – and while in the past there haven’t been many deals, San Francisco is reportedly considering moving several veterans as part of an ongoing rebuilding process. According to league sources the 49ers have talked with Philadelphia about a deal for veteran WR Torrey Smith, a big-time free agent signing a couple of years back by SF that just hasn’t worked out in the bay area. Meanwhile, there have also been rumors that the 49ers are shopping veteran OT Joe Staley. On the other hand, Cleveland is strongly denying rumors that they would be willing to trade veteran LT Joe Thomas for a second-round pick. Given the number of contending teams around the NFL that have issues along their offensive lines it is hard not to imagine that other teams are at least looking into either or both Staley and Thomas. Stay tuned!
