Cut-down day updates … There were a couple of items that slipped under our radar during yesterday’s roster cut-down moves. New Orleans, for example, confirmed that second-year pro Spencer Rattler would start the season as the team’s #1 QB. Rattler had been in a battle with rookie Tyler Shough for the job. However, given that neither were particularly overwhelming through training camp, one would assume that the position will be a top priority for the Saints next year. There were also a couple of minor trades yesterday. Jacksonville added veteran WR Tim Patrick from Detroit in exchange for a 6th round pick in 2026. while the LA Chargers acquired veteran reserve OT Austin Deculus from Houston in exchange for a conditional 7th round pick in 2027. Meantime, teams are spending the day scouring the waiver wire and have until 4 PM ET later today to put in waiver claims for any player released yesterday. Once that 24-hour waiver period ends teams can start to sign their practice squads.
