Coulda, maybe shoulda stayed in school

Coulda, maybe shoulda stayed in school … As with most drafts these days, underclassmen dominated the top of the board at this weekend’s draft. Indeed, 9 of the first ten picks were either juniors or redshirt sophomores as were 19 of the 32 players selected in the opening round. However, it wasn’t all peaches and cream for this year’s early daft entries. In fact, of the just over 100 underclassmen who declared for this year’s draft, almost 30% weren’t selected at all. Of course, some of those players really never expected to be drafted and were just looking to get an early start on any shot at an NFL career. However, a number of underclassmen who really did expect to be drafted, and drafted early, weren’t selected at all including former Nevada QB Carson Strong, along with fellow QB Kaleb Eleby, WRs Justyn Ross, Makai Polk, Devon Williams and Slade Bolden, TE Jalen Wydermeyer, OT Dare Rosenthal, OG William Dunkle, C Dohnovan West, CBs Chris Steele, Mykael Wright and Jermaine Waller, safety Verone McKinly and PK Gabe Brkic. At the same time, several other prominent underclassmen ended up being selected several rounds lower than they must have been thinking when they made their decision to enter the draft including QBs Sam Howell and Matt Corral, RB Isaiah Spiller, WR David Bell, DT DeMarvin Neal and LB Nakobe Dean.
