Conference championship previews

December 2, 2021

Prospects preview for college football’s conference championship weekend … It’s conference championship weekend across the country with several games on the docket holding the keys to this year’s 4-team CFP playoff line-up. It all starts Friday night with a couple of games including Oregon against Utah in the PAC-12 title contest and Western Kentucky versus Texas-San Antonio in the CUSA championship. The Oregon-Utah game, in particular, features another chance to check out Ducks’ DE Kayvon Thibodeuax, still the consensus favorite to be the #1 pick overall at the upcoming draft. Ironically, though, the unheralded CUSA match-up between WKU and UTSA might actually be the more interesting from a draft perspective as it features unheralded Western Kentucky QB Bailey Zappe who actually leads the country in passing. Then on Saturday, there’ll be six more games including what figures to be another epic SEC final between Alabama and Georgia. Again, though, the most interesting game of the day might be the AAC final between Cincinnati and Houston as the Bearcats try to become the first non-Power 5 team to make the national championship playoff. Here are previews of this weekend’s games with an eye toward the 2022 draft:

Friday

CUSA: Western Kentucky at Texas-San Antonio

PAC-12: Oregon vs Utah

Saturday

BIG XII: Baylor vs Oklahoma State

Mountain West: Utah State at San Diego State

SEC: Alabama vs Georgia

AAC: Houston at Cincinnati

BIG TEN: Michigan vs Iowa

ACC: Wake Forest vs Pittsburgh
