comp picks awarded

March 11, 2016

Comp picks awarded … The NFL has awarded a total of 33 compensatory picks this year to 13 different teams. Dallas, New England and San Francisco lead the way with 4 comp picks apiece, while Seattle, Denver, Baltimore, and Cleveland get three picks each; Detroit, Green Bay, and Buffalo get two each; and Arizona, San Diego and Pittsburgh get one each. However, Detroit gets the earliest comp pick this year, #95 at the end of the 3rd round, while New England (#96), Seattle (#97) and Denver (#98) also get late 3rd round selections. Compensatory picks are based on the net number of free agents a team loses/gains the previous year and are determined by a formula based on salary, playing time and postseason honors. Interestingly, compensatory picks this year were awarded only in rounds 3-6 with none in the 7th. Here is the full list of comp picks. We’ll be back with the full, updated selection order for the 2016 draft as soon as these picks have been incorporated.
