Combine underway in Indy … The defensive linemen, LBs and kickers have arrived in Indianapolis and are set to start their 5 days of scouting combine activity on Monday. They’ll be followed by the DBs and TEs on Tuesday; the QBs, RBs and WRs on Wednesday and the offensive linemen on Thursday. Each group will go thru 5 days of testing. The first day includes registration and orientation and preliminary medical tests; the second day involves general medical testing; the third day includes an orthopedic exam, meetings with the NFLPA and media interviews, the 4th has the weigh-in and measurement session as well as the on-field physical tests and position drills, while they do the bench press on the 5th and final day before packing up and heading home. Players also undergo team interviews each day with each team allowed 15-minute sessions with up to 60 players in total. For the record, the on-field testing sessions start on Thursday with the DL and LBs on the field, followed by the DBs and TEs on Friday, the QBs, RBs and WRs on Saturday and the OL on Sunday. As we have noted in the past, the really important elements of the combine are the medical tests and the team interviews and while the on-field testing including the 40 yard dashes get most of the media attention they are really more about checking boxes than grade-changing events. Here is the full combine schedule for the week.
