Combine notes: Top DL won’t work out; 2 QBs to throw, one won’t … The annual scouting combine is officially underway in Indianapolis as we speak with the defensive linemen going through registration and orientation. They’ll also be the first group to work out later this week when they do their on-field physical testing and positional drills on Thursday. It won’t be a full-house on Thursday though as both Georgia DT Jalen Carter and Texas Tech DE Tyree Wilson, two of the top three DL prospects for this year’s draft, have indicated that they won’t be working out. Carter, who is getting considerable consideration to be the first player selected this coming April, instead will work out for pro scouts at the Georgia pro day on March 15th. For his part, Wilson at least has an excuse as he is still rehabbing from a broken foot suffered in November. No word yet, though, whether Wilson, another top 5 prospect, will be able to work at the Red Raiders’ pro day next month.

At the same time, Alabama QB Bryce Young, the emerging consensus top QB prospect this year, has indicated he won’t be throwing at the combine, but will do a full routine at the Tide pro day on March 23rd. However, Young will be weighed and measured this week to answer the combine’s biggest question this year and that is how big or small is he after playing at a listed 194 pounds this season. Meanwhile, both C.J. Stroud of Ohio State and Florida’s Anthony Richardson have said they will throw this week.

While the on-field testing doesn’t get underway until later this week, the interview process in which every team can talk with up to 60 players (for up to 15 minutes) starts today. And CBS is reporting that teams have been told by the NFL that they can be forced to forfeit as much as a first-round if they ask any offensive or improper questions.
