Collins signs

Cowboys sign LSU G/T Collins … In a bit of a surprise, Dallas has reportedly signed former LSU G/T La’el Collins to a three-deal worth $1.7M. The deal is fully guaranteed, but only includes a $21K signing bonus. Collins, who had been considered to be a mid-first round prospect for last weekend’s draft, went unselected through the 7 rounds after police asked to speak with him about the shooting death of a pregnant ex-girlfiend just days before the draft, although Collins was never named as a suspect in the case. Where Collins will fit in on the Dallas offensive line, which is one of the best in the league, remains a bit of question. In fact, it is a little surprising that Collins even seriously considered the Cowboys as he was believed to be looking for a team which would give him chance to play LT where he would have the opportunity to earn back some of the money he lost by not being selected in this year’s opening round. However, Tyson Smith is entrenched as the Cowboys’ LT and the rest of the unit is pretty set.
