College notes: Tide comes in for CB Ricks; Prime steals one

College notes: Tide comes in for CB Ricks; Prime steals one … In one of those the ‘rich get richer’ things, rising sophomore CB Eli Ricks, who figures to be a top pro prospect as early as the 2023 draft, has reportedly opted to sign with Alabama after transferring out of LSU. Ricks didn’t play much this year because of a shoulder injury which ultimately required surgery but was a Freshman All-American last year … In a move that is kind of flying under the radar, Nebraska redshirt junior Cam Jurgens has reportedly announced he will be entering this year’s draft. While Jurgens is still more of a late second or early third-day prospect for this year, the 6-3, 295-pounder is an interesting guy who our staff really likes. He’s a converted TE with excellent athleticism who has barely played three years at the position and has a lot of upside; in fact, he only allowed 1 sack through those three years with the Huskers … The Senior Bowl announced the addition of two more players: OLB Troy Anderson of Montana State and Arkansas LS Jordan Silver … The whole college football world is in a bit of a buzz this morning after CB Travis Hunter, the #2 prep recruit this year, flipped his commitment from Florida State to FCS Jackson State. In the process, he becomes the highest FCS recruit in decades. Of course, JSU is currently coached by Deion Sanders, the former All-World NFL corner which was clearly the main attraction to Hunter. It’s also probably no secret around college football that Sanders, the former Florida State star, is angling to get the head coaching gig with his old school. Stay tuned.
