Washington has confirmed that senior OLB Joe Mathis, one of the team’s leaders on defense, will miss the remainder of the regular season with a foot injury. Mathis actually missed the last three games, but still lead’s the 4th ranked, unbeaten Huskies team leader in sacks. Washington, though, hopes that Mathis could return for the Huskies’ bowl game. Tennessee junior SS/KR Evan Berry will miss the rest of the season with an undisclosed knee injury. Berry is another underclassman whom NFL teams were expecting to seriously consider entering the 2017 draft where he would have been a mid-to-late round prospect based in large part on his KO return skills as he is second in the nation with a 32 yards per return average. * Kent State senior SS Nate Holley, one of the best players in the MAC, has been suspended indefinitely after he charged with felony kidnapping. Holley was also ordered to stay at a halfway house and substance abuse treatment center while he awaits trial on the charges. * Florida junior LB Alex Anzalone will miss the rest of the year after breaking his arm in last weekend’s loss to Arkansas; Anzalone, the Gators’ second leading tackler this fall, was a dark-horse candidate to enter the 2017 draft. * Baylor RB Shock Linwood, a late-round or free agent prospect for the 2017 draft, has been suspended from this week’s key Big XII game with Oklahoma because of what are described as “attitude issues.” Linwood reportedly shoved an assistant coach during Baylor’s dismal loss to TCU last week and Bears’ head coach Jim Grobe said Linwood has “some issues to work through” before he sees the field again. No doubt he’ll also have some serious ‘splaining to do during pre-draft interviews with NFL teams this winter. * Florida State WR Bobo Wilson will miss the rest of the season after undergoing surgery to repair a foot injury. Wilson, another late-round or undrafted free agent prospect for the 2017 draft who had 30 catches this fall for 390 yards, originally injured the foot earlier this season and after sitting out a couple of games tried to play thru the injury, but ultimately realized he really couldn’t go and opted for the surgery now in hopes of being ready for pre-draft testing. * Nebraska QB Tommy Armstrong is going through the concussion protocol after he was taken off the field in an ambulance during Saturday’s loss to Ohio State that occurred when he was knocked out after hitting the ground hard. For now, Armstrong, a good athlete who could get some looks from NFL teams at another position next spring, is listed as day-to-day for this week’s game against Minnesota.
