College football camps getting underway … As of Monday just about all fall college football training camps should be in full operation with the start of the 2023 season now less than a month away. For the record, there are a handful of games scheduled for August 26th, with the initial full week of the college slate set for the first weekend of September. And it looks like it could be a really fascinating year in college football. Indeed, while Georgia is the two-time returning national champion, and the pre-season betting favorite to make it three titles in a row, there are in fact as many a s a dozen teams with a legitimate shot at claiming the title. Along with Georgia, they include Alabama and LSU in the SEC, Ohio State, Michigan and Penn State in the big Ten, Clemson and Florida State in the ACC and Southern California, Washington and Oregon from the Pac-12. Then there could be as many as another dozen teams with the potential to surprise including Tennessee, Miami, Utah, and TCU. All those teams are chasing one of just four spots in the playoffs as the CFP doesn’t expand to 12 teams until next year. This year’s CFP semi-finals will be played in the Rose and Sugar Bowls at their regular times on January 1st, while the national championship game will be played on January 8th in Houston.
Of course, if the start of the football season is just around the corner, it means its also the start of the draft season with the 2023 draft now just 262 days away! And we’ll be starting our ‘official’ pre-season coverage in the next day or so with the release of our listing of the top 15 draft classes across the country heading into the campaign among other features.
